Over on OpensourceCatholic.com I made acquaintance with Pistos, a Catholic, Canadian musician, open-source advocate, and linux junkie. I thought Blaise Alleyne and I were the only two people that fit that description.
Pistos has developed the Catholic Reference Extension for WordPress. It magically makes scripture and Catechism references pop up the actual bible or Catechism text.
This post is mostly so I can test it out. If you type in a reference to the Catechism of the Catholic Church like:
- CCC 185 -187
or a scripture reference like:
- John 3:16
it should automagically bring up a box with the referenced text when you mouse over it. The Scripture popup works fine for me but the Catechism reference posts the whole text of the catechism reference at the bottom of each post and plays a little bit of havoc with my blog layout. I will monkey with it a bit more and update this post later.
Update:
I contacted Pistos through his IRC channel and he checked out the site. He said he found a bug in the drop shadows routine and had me turn off drop shadows in the Catholic Reference Extension settings. Works like a charm now. He tells me that he will be fixing the bug and releasing an new version of the plugin soon. I love the Internet and open source software. When I had a difficulty with a free plugin the volunteer author personally helped to troubleshoot it. Kind of like we are both part of some universal community of brothers and sisters united by our common faith…
Wait…
Exactly like that.
Check out the Catholic Reference Extension . It’s a great tool for Catholic Bloggers.
Thanks Pistos
