Regular listeners of the Catholic Roundup will know that we are huge fans of Catholic Nerdfolk duo, Popple (Think Wilco at a prayer meeting). Last month, Popple released their wonderful new album, Hip, Hip, Hooray. If you are still searching for the perfect Christmas gift for one of your loved ones, you could not go wrong with Popple’s CDs or T-Shirts. About 2 years ago I interviewed Kyle Heimann from Popple on my other podcast about songwriters and songwriting, For the Sake of the Song. As a result, I was well aware of Kyle’s adroit mastery of
the craft of songwriting. I was therefore thrilled when he offered to write an original Advent composition for this year’s Catholic Roundup Advent Calendar. I hope you enjoy this never before released original DemiPopple Advent song.
Join us tomorrow and every day until December 26 for more reflections produced by great Catholic New Media personalities.

Can I write a song about adding up vents? It will be a math song plus a proper ventilation service announcement.

Yes Kyle:
The world definitely needs a song about adding up vents.
Pax,
Sean
BTW– last month I wrote a subtraction song for kids in the style of Woody Guthrie called ‘Going to the Store, I’m rich”.

You know, the more I think about it, perhaps you could do a promotional spot for a local heating supply company– an ad for vents.

Funny song, but I was disappointed. I love Popple’s “fun” songs (“Without You it’s Just Kulele” is genius!) but even more I enjoy their “serious” music (songs like “Forever Yours”, “Prayer of St. Francis” and “Calm Again”). I was hoping for a “real” advent song.
That’s not to say I didn’t get a chuckle, but I’d like to hear Popple do some seasonal religious music too. Where’s “Christmas with Popple”, “Easter with Popple”, etc.? Do you think they’d take requests?

Hey Mike: Last year Dan from Popple presented us with an original song, Can You See Him? (© December 14, 2008, Dan Harms). You never know what else may pop up on the Catholic Roundup Advent Calendar as Advent unfolds. Stay tuned.
