More Details about 40 Days of Catholic Media

Following yesterday’s post and podcast, I have already had people offering to submit Lenten themed media a la the Catholic New Media Advent Calendar for 40 Days of Catholic Media. That is fantastic.   I want to
really focus on gathering a group together for a facilitated and gently guided 6 week conversation exploring why we feel the need to share our faith online, and what are the needs of Catholic Media producers.

To that end I am setting up a loose schedule of posts I will attempt to produce.

1) Mondays in Lent:   A group “book club”…  A study and discussion of documents and teachings directed to  people sharing the Good News.   First Up– The Holy Father’s Letter for World Communications Day.  After that, I want to get suggestions from the group of what we would like to read.

2)Tuesdays in Lent: Borrowing a page from Rob, the Tupelo Geek, we’ll do Tuesday Tech Talk, we will have some tech tips and tutorials about HOWTO improve our blogs, podcasts, etc…

3)  Wednesdays will be focused on Community–  I will likely have some  ”homework”  for people to help strengthen the community connections among us and to help promote and support each other.

4) Thursdays I would like to shine a spotlight on particular bloggers and podcasters, (particularly those joining in the discussion), who are doing certain things particularly well.  (Ooh– that’s alot of particulars).

5)  Fridays:  Posts focusing on prayer and pennance during Lent. Perhaps we can also arrange a means to pray the rosary, Stations or Liturgy of the hours online together on some Fridays.

6) Saturdays a Catholic Roundup Podcast or Digest summing up the week’s discussions.

7) Sundays will be a day of rest on the blog.

This is a rough outline of the ongoing discussion I would like to kindle, and what I am going to contribute to the discussion.  Of course, as we journey through Lent I hope we will modify our discussions to suit the needs of the group who gathers together.  I welcome people’s contributions based on these main themes of community, technical formation, and faith formation,   or any other contribution you think will be related to the themes of Catholic New Media producers gathering online to grow together.

Watch catholicroundup.com Tuesday and Wednesday for an “icebreaker” activity inviting people to virtually stand up and be counted and
express their interest in this Lenten journey.  Of course, this being the Internet, people will be free to come and go from day to day.  The discussions will be centered around blog comments on my blog at catholicroundup.com although we may also use the Catholic Roundup Facebook page if this is a more useful place for our discussions.  http://www.facebook.com/pages/Catholic-Roundup/216944336951

I look forward to collaborating with you during these 40 Days of Catholic Media.

Start to think upon these questions:

How did you start into sharing your faith using new media?

What do you need from the community?  For faith formation? For Affirmation?

Feel free to add suggestions and questions in the comments.

I am happy to join in this project. I have been a blogger since 2006 when I found it a great way to tell the world what a blessing my little girl with Down syndrome is to our family. I look forward to meeting new friends, sharing our Lenten progress as we take time apart to reflect on our mission responding to the Holy Father’s call to use the New Media to evangelize.

Welcome Leticia. It is nice to make your virtual acquaintance. I look forward to getting to know you as we go through this Lenten journey.

I’m intrigued by the 40 Days of Catholic Media idea and look forward to seeing how it comes together and what opportunities to participate develop. I think you’ve got a good plan and wish you the blessings of Lent as the season begins.

Hello Sean – I haven’t noodled around a whole bunch – but will consider filling any (one) slot left ‘unliked’ or unloved… Let me know what I/we can do. DT

I think this is an awesome idea. I just posted an entry about prayer, fasting, and almsgiving for Catholic media artists on my blog…and I’ve been praying for a while about how I’d describe a spirituality or asceticism for Catholic communicators. I especially love your idea for Mondays, so I’ll be contributing then.

    Thanks for doing this!
