We are pleased to announce that we have set up the Catholic Media Promo Bank. This page is a repository of all the Catholic podcast and blog promos, flyers, etc that I can get my hands on. This could be a useful resource for podcasters who wish to play Catholic podcast promos, or for podcast listeners who wish to find new podcasts.

Our goal at the Catholic Roundup has always been to help Catholics using new media to spread the Good News and to help other Catholics to find great Catholic resources online. If you have questions about setting up your Catholic blog or podcast, we are happy to help out.

A 1-3 minute audio promo is a great way to spread word about your podcast, blog or web resource. Podcasters are a sociable bunch and they are usually quite happy to play promos for other podcasts. A bit of your show music with some clips or a description of your show along with the website address are a good start. You can hear a promo for our show at http://www.cc.ductapeguy.net/40days/CNMRPromo.mp3 .

I got many ideas for the focus of The Catholic Roundup from The Canadian Podcast Buffet, a podcast which serves as a community hub for the Canadian podcasting community. They have some solid promo guidelines at http://www.canadianpodcastbuffet.ca/?page_id=8

Here are their guidelines adapted for my purposes.

PODCAST PROMO

Please attach a promo of no more than 120 seconds in the following
format: MP3, 44.1KHz, 128-bit (stereo or mono)

Once ready, please email your submission to (catholicroundup@gmail.com) catholicroundup (at) gmail (dot) com
with the subject “PROMO: Your Show Name”.

AUDIO PROFILE

The Canadian Podcast Buffet also does something called an Audio Profile which I have adapted here.

Please attach an audio profile of no more than 120 seconds in the following format: MP3, 44.1KHz, 128-bit (stereo or mono)

When you start your audio response to these questions, please follow this format..

Hi! My name is ……. I produce a Catholic podcast called ……… in ………. (city).

These questions are GUIDELINES, you don’t have to follow
this point-by-point, just tell us about you and your show!

# How often do you publish your show?
# When did you first start podcasting?
# Which Catholic podcasts do you listen to/recommend? Why?
# What single piece of advice do you have for podcast listeners?
# Which single piece of technical advice (tech tip) do you feel is
critical for podcasters?
# How do you feel that participating in new media deepens your faith?
# Who is your favorite saint?
# What is your favorite sacramental or devotion?

Once ready, please email your submission to (catholicroundup@gmail.com) catholicroundup (at) gmail (dot) com
with the subject “PROFILE: Your Show Name”.

Please email me with any questions you have setting up the website, podcast feed etc… I’m happy to help others use new media to share the Good News.

Today, Father Roderick and the SQPN network closed their annual fund raising drive with a 12 hour podcast marathon. I thought I would surprise Father Roderick with something special. The Catholic New Media Celebration will be held this year in San Antonio, Texas on June 27. I’m still unable to go but it will be an amazing event. To help promote the CNMC, I wrote and recorded a parody called, ‘People are going to San Antone’ with the help of Adam Hendey on flute (recorded by his mother Lisa Hendey the Catholic Mom), and Dan Harms of Popple on Lead Guitar.

Enjoy.

And if you can make it to the Catholic New Media Celebration, head on over to celebration.sqpn.com for more information.

I thought I would surprise Father Roderick with something special. The Catholic New Media Celebration (http://celebration.sqpn.com/) will be held this year in San Antonio, Texas on June 27. I'm still unable to go but it will be an amazing event. To help promote the CNMC, I wrote and recorded a parody called, 'People are going to San Antone' with the help of Adam Hendey on flute (recorded by his mother Lisa Hendey the Catholic Mom (http://new.catholicmom.com)), and Dan Harms of Popple (http://popple.us) on Lead Guitar.

Enjoy.

And if you can make it to the Catholic New Media Celebration (http://celebration.sqpn.com/), head on over to celebration.sqpn.com (http://celebration.sqpn.com/) for more information.</itunes:summary>

Antonia from the wonderful Catholic Linux monkey blog is a programmer and mobile application developer in her day job. For Lent, she made a Mobile Catholic Prayerbook, that contains the common prayers – from the very basic Our Father to various after mass thanksgiving prayers and other Catholic devotionals. It currently runs on Java-enabled phones. She has an iPhone version coming soon!

It can be downloaded here: http://blvu.com/cpb

I’m trying to check it out on my palm TX. I’ll let you know if I get it up and running.

UPDATE:

Antonia Rocks! When I mentioned that I was trying to get the mobile Catholic Praybook working on my palm TX to take a look, she compiled it specially for me. Remember folks that the Palm TX is a discontinued platform that no longer officially supports Java apps, but it runs GREAT. It is basically a quick index of many Catholic Prayers on your java enabled mobile phone or device. Antonia is offering it for free during Lent. If you have a Java enabled cell phone, check it out.

I have screenshots of it running on my palm TX below.
On the blogs:

Promo For Christus Vincit: The Blog (http://christusvincit.blogspot.com/)

Woohoo: A blog Promo-- and it was easy to find too-- Brian posted it to the sidebar of the blog-- a very good idea for bloggers and podcasters.

If you're a Catholic Blogger who would like to have an audio promo for your blog I'm willing to act as a matchmaker between Catholic bloggers and podcasters who would be willing do do a short audio promo for blogs. Or if you are a Catholic blogger with audio equipment, you could do one yourself and send it to me-- <cough> CurtJester (http://www.splendoroftruth.com/curtjester/index.html) </cough>

And not reach out to help them when they need it?
And we have a loving and just Father.
God has every hair on our heads counted and keeps our best interests in mind, even when they aren’t how WE planned things. God loves us. We can count on that, even When Things Turn Out… Differently,
And our God is just, even when the meaning of that is hard to grasp.

About the same time I discovered Catholic Podcasts, I started seeking out Catholic blogs. In 2004 or 2005, while cruising through St. Blog’s Parish blog directory, I encountered Catholic+Linux+Monkey. The name was just too irresistible. As a Catholic who monkeys around with linux, I had to check it out. Catholic+Linux+Monkey is the personal blog of Antonia, an IT specialist and Catholic who lives in Singapore.

Over the past several years I keep coming back to it because Antonia recounts her struggles to grow in faith while living in the modern world. The fact that she lives on the opposite side of the world to me also helps me to understand about the Universal Church. I particularly enjoyed her posts leading up to and following World Youth Day in Cologne. I hope she is going to WYD in Australia so I can again enjoy viewing that incredible event through her eyes.
