Rock the vote– Help people find great Catholic Podcasts by voting on Podcast Alley

Posted by Sean on April 2, 2009

Podcast Alley is a podcast directory that bases their rankings on monthly polls of podcast listeners going to the site and voting for their favorite podcasts. It is one of the longest running podcast directories and as the years have gone by many podcast listeners have fallen out of the practice of voting for their favorite shows at the beginning of the month. (I know I have).
Today Chris Cash, who is approaching Episode 100 of the Catholic Spotlight podcast sent out a request to the In the Catholic Spotlight Facebook Group.

I am trying an experiment this month with Podcast Alley. Every month, they have a top 10 podcasts list on their frontpage, and the list is determined by votes. Right now, we can get onto that list with just 37 more votes. I thought it would be worth trying to get on the list for a day or two to see what happens. There are just over 125 of you on this list, so if everyone just goes and votes, we could make it into the top podcasts for a few days. Here is the link, and I will email in a few days to let you know the results of this experiment.
Vote for Catholic Spotlight on Podcast Alley

Also, I am going to have Dr. Hahn on the show in a couple weeks, so I need some questions from you guys. They can be about his new book, Spirit and Life, or just about anything on your mind.

You can call in questions to 206-426-1207.

While I was at  Podcast Alley voting for the Catholic Spotlight podcast, and other great Catholic Podcasts, I noticed that this month, the highest ranked Catholic Podcast in the Religion and Sprituality category is The Our Catholic Life podcast at #19. Take some time to vote for your favorite Catholic podcasts on Podcast Alley and let’s see if we can get them in the top ranks of the religion and Spirituality Category, and maybe even high ranking among all podcasts on the site.
If you have a Catholic Podcast Listed on Podcast Alley, please add a link to your Podcast Alley page in the  comments of this post and we’ll  help you and other Catholic podcasters get the word out.

P.S. I finally got around to adding Catholic Roundup to Podcast Alley.  Please vote for the Catholic Roundup on Podcast Alley.

Nothing to see down here.  This link is just me claiming my feed for My Podcast Alley feed! {pca-83e39a0c3bde01d04543ef71174350de}

Mobile Catholic Prayerbook

Posted by Sean on March 9, 2009

Antonia from the wonderful Catholic Linux monkey blog is a programmer and mobile application developer in her day job. For Lent, she made a Mobile Catholic Prayerbook, that contains the common prayers – from the very basic Our Father to various after mass thanksgiving prayers and other Catholic devotionals. It currently runs on Java-enabled phones.  She has an iPhone version coming soon!

It can be downloaded here: http://blvu.com/cpb

I’m  trying to check it out on my palm TX.  I’ll let you know if I get it up and running.

UPDATE:

Antonia Rocks!  When I mentioned that I was trying to get the mobile Catholic Praybook working on my palm TX to take a look, she compiled it specially for me.  Remember folks that the Palm TX is a discontinued platform that no longer officially supports Java apps, but it runs GREAT.  It is basically a quick index of  many Catholic Prayers on your java enabled mobile phone or device.  Antonia is offering it for free during Lent.  If you have a Java enabled cell phone, check it out.

I have screenshots of it running on my palm TX below.

Catholic Roundup Episode Number 50??? What’s a number anyway?

Posted by Sean on March 1, 2009

catholicrounduplogo

Intro Music

Catholic Roundup Rebranding

  • Why Rebrand?  A Catholic Canadian –> Catholic New Media Roundup –> Catholic Roundup

  • Episode Renumbering  (About 29 podcast episodes in last year’s 40 Days of Catholic Media)+  20 original posts for Catholic New Media Roundup.    That would make this episode of Catholic Roundup Show #50.

  • Why renumber– To show continuity in what we’ve been doing here for the past 18 months.  I counted all multimedia audio and video I personally produced since I started A Catholic Canadian.  I did not count guest contributions for the advent calendar. That would be ballot stuffing.  Basically show numbers don’t mean much but they do represent time, commitment, and I find them highly motivating.
