Catholic New Media Sixth Day of Christmas with Susan Bailey

Play

Susan Bailey, is a  musician, blogger and online magazine publisher, and podcaster.   Her newest project is the Sung Rosary Project.   Today she sends her song:

The Promised Son ©Susan Bailey

A cold, dark night, a glistening star

Shining bright from afar

Upon the man whose wife would soon

Bear a child from her womb

In poverty, in a manger stall

No one came to help at all

The cold, dark night felt colder still

From hearts so hard, and lack of good will

And here was born the promised Son

Jesus Christ, the Holy One

The pain was great, her labor long

She wondered how she could be strong

Yet in her heart she felt no fear

For the child would soon appear

Onto the straw which made his bed

His mother laid His precious head

The fragile babe was heard to cry

She held Him closely to her side

7And here was born the promised Son

Jesus Christ, the Holy One

Glory to our God

For His Son has come down

Made the least of all

That the poor and just be found

The shepherds came there to adore

The tiny baby which she had bore

And three great kings did humbly kneel

Their wonder, they could not conceal

This tender child, the promised Son

Jesus Christ, the Holy One

Race to the 100th Episode Report

And from out of nowhere, The Grapevine News Minute pulls into the lead, releasing episode 97 and 98 on the same day! Catholic Family Podcast and Catholic in a Small Town are trailing at Episode 96.

Music: Susan Bailey: Immaculate Mary-Mater Dei from the Podsafe Music Network

New Media News: End of an Era: Greg Willits ustreamed cleaning out the cloffice where the Rosary Army podcast and many SQPN shows have been produced and setting up their new home studio where they will have a 3 hour daily show on Sirius Satellite Radio. While taking things off the wall Greg peeled a paint chip. At the urging of the Ustream audience, he put the paint chip up on Ebay with the proceeds to go to Rosary Army. Bids were up to $50 before ebay cancelled the auction about 3 hours later. Fortunately Greg managed to get the auction re-instated as a charity auction for Rosary Army. 20 Questions with Greg Keuter from the Divine Mercy Podcast and Promo.

Podcasts: Our Catholic Life Podcast.

Father Pope

The Mazucci family (James, Jody, Catherine, Emily and Andrew produce the wonderful  Our Catholic Life Podcast. Their podcast follows one of my favorite formats for many family podcasts: The parents discuss a bit of their daily life, the children have a segment where they talk about what’s happening in their world. Then they discuss a specific Catholic Topic.

On one of their recent episodes James talked about listening to the homilies of one of his favorite Podcasting priests, Father Pope. They played one of Father Pope‘s homilies and it was amazing. I’ve added him to my podcatcher as well.

Music:
Andrew Mazucci: Salve Regina

Their newest podcast focused on the Assumption of Mary and mentioned that James’ Mazucci’s birthday is Aug 15, the Feast of the Assumption of Mary.  (Happy Birthday James). My birthday falls on the Feast of St. Margaret of Scotland. Our home parish is St. Margarets so we usually have a parish dinner or social on my birthday.

Question of the Week: What saint’s day or celebration lands on your birthday?

Day 25: GrapeVine Online – The Magazine About Catholic Music and Catholic Performing Artists

Play

Susan BaileyToday I had a lovely chat with Susan Bailey, a Catholic musician and the brains, brawn and beauty behind GrapeVine Online, a podcast, blog and print magazine about Catholic Music and Catholic musicians. She has an interesting perspective on Lent because her husband is a Melkite Catholic and is studying to be a deacon, so her family celebrates their Catholic faith in both the Latin and the Melkite rites. I’ve only been listening to the Grapevine News Minute podcast for a few months, but Susan does a great job of featuring Catholic musicians and events with her weekly show. We end the interview with Susan singing her arrangement of Schubert’s Ave Maria. Check out Susan’s Music at susanbailey.net and find out about tons of other great Catholic Musicians at GrapeVine Online.
