A Catholic Roundup Advent with Popple Dan

Play

Dan Harms is the other half of the amazing Catholic nerdcore band, Popple (Think– They Might be Giants with rosaries).  Last month, Popple released their wonderful new album, Hip, Hip, Hooray.  If you are still searching for the perfect Christmas gift for one of your loved ones, you could not go wrong with Popple’s CDs or T-Shirts.

For last year’s Catholic New Media Advent Calendar, Dan presented us with  an original song, Can You See Him? (© December 14, 2008, Dan Harms).

Today Dan drops in again with a tasty acoustic recording of I Saw 3 Ships.  Dan says, “It’s an old British carol – evidently written somewhere around the 17th century: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Saw_Three_Ships .  Sting has some sweet versions of the song an I did a version of it in DADGAD tuning.”

Join us tomorrow and every day until December 26 for more reflections produced by great Catholic New Media personalities.

An Original Advent Song by Kyle from Popple

Play

Regular listeners of the Catholic Roundup will know that we are huge fans of Catholic Nerdfolk duo, Popple (Think Wilco at a prayer meeting). Last month, Popple released their wonderful new album, Hip, Hip, Hooray. If you are still searching for the perfect Christmas gift for one of your loved ones, you could not go wrong with Popple’s CDs or T-Shirts. About 2 years ago I interviewed Kyle Heimann from Popple on my other podcast about songwriters and songwriting,  For the Sake of the Song. As a result, I was well aware of Kyle’s adroit mastery of
the craft of songwriting. I was therefore thrilled when he offered to write an original Advent composition for this year’s Catholic Roundup Advent Calendar. I hope you enjoy this never before released original DemiPopple Advent song.

Join us tomorrow and every day until December 26 for more reflections produced by great Catholic New Media personalities.

I still can’t go to the CNMC

Play

Today, Father Roderick and the SQPN network closed their annual fund raising drive with a 12 hour podcast marathon. I thought I would surprise Father Roderick with something special. The Catholic New Media Celebration will be held this year in San Antonio, Texas on June 27. I’m still unable to go but it will be an amazing event. To help promote the CNMC, I wrote and recorded a parody called, ‘People are going to San Antone’ with the help of Adam Hendey on flute (recorded by his mother Lisa Hendey the Catholic Mom), and Dan Harms of Popple on Lead Guitar.

Enjoy.

And if you can make it to the Catholic New Media Celebration, head on over to celebration.sqpn.com for more information.

Day 46: Waiting is Over- Time for Popple!

Play

Today is a day of preparation and waiting. The 40 days of Lent is almost over. We wait with the church as Christ waited in the tomb. At the Easter Vigil tonight we will celebrate the risen Christ.

But you have all waited enough for me. The podcast file today is an early listen to my For the Sake of the Song episode with Kyle Heimann from Popple. I will not be releasing it on For the Sake of the Song until April 20.

Enjoy
