Race to the 100th Episode Report

And from out of nowhere, The Grapevine News Minute pulls into the lead, releasing episode 97 and 98 on the same day! Catholic Family Podcast and Catholic in a Small Town are trailing at Episode 96.

Music: Susan Bailey: Immaculate Mary-Mater Dei from the Podsafe Music Network

New Media News: End of an Era: Greg Willits ustreamed cleaning out the cloffice where the Rosary Army podcast and many SQPN shows have been produced and setting up their new home studio where they will have a 3 hour daily show on Sirius Satellite Radio. While taking things off the wall Greg peeled a paint chip. At the urging of the Ustream audience, he put the paint chip up on Ebay with the proceeds to go to Rosary Army. Bids were up to $50 before ebay cancelled the auction about 3 hours later. Fortunately Greg managed to get the auction re-instated as a charity auction for Rosary Army. 20 Questions with Greg Keuter from the Divine Mercy Podcast and Promo.

Podcasts: Our Catholic Life Podcast.

Father Pope

The Mazucci family (James, Jody, Catherine, Emily and Andrew produce the wonderful  Our Catholic Life Podcast. Their podcast follows one of my favorite formats for many family podcasts: The parents discuss a bit of their daily life, the children have a segment where they talk about what’s happening in their world. Then they discuss a specific Catholic Topic.

On one of their recent episodes James talked about listening to the homilies of one of his favorite Podcasting priests, Father Pope. They played one of Father Pope‘s homilies and it was amazing. I’ve added him to my podcatcher as well.

Music:
Andrew Mazucci: Salve Regina

Their newest podcast focused on the Assumption of Mary and mentioned that James’ Mazucci’s birthday is Aug 15, the Feast of the Assumption of Mary.  (Happy Birthday James). My birthday falls on the Feast of St. Margaret of Scotland. Our home parish is St. Margarets so we usually have a parish dinner or social on my birthday.

Question of the Week: What saint’s day or celebration lands on your birthday?

Day 39 of 40 Days of Catholic Media with Jennifer Willits

Play

Over the past 3 years, the Rosary Army Podcast and the Rosary Army as a whole have become a very important part of my family’s growth together in our Catholic Faith. I’ve become known as a bit of a class clown around the Rosary Army for my silly audio comments and sometimes silly parody songs that I send in and that they actually play on the podcast. The beauty of my Zoom h4 recorder is that I can record audio feedback anywhere, so there is often background sounds in my audio feedback. For several months, Jennifer Willits has been teasing me about the background noise in my audio comments. Then on February 21, she seemed hurt that I had interviewed Greg but not her for my 40 days project. I couldn’t resist and produced a virtual audio interview for her, complete with my random responses and all sorts of household interruptions. Jennifer and Greg are great sports and they gamely tried to conduct the interview around my nonsense. Enjoy, and be sure to check out the Rosary Army and That Catholic Show.

Day 4 of 40 Days of Catholic Media: Father Roderick came to Toronto

Play

Here is a brief interview I did with Father Roderick when he came to Toronto last month.

In August of 2005 I got my first mp3 player and started scouring the Internet for mp3s to put on it. I discovered the early This week in Tech programs, and found 2 neat Catholic podcasts, The Catholic Insider, and The Rosary Army Podcast. It was an AHA moment for me. Up until then I was largely unaware of the nascent Catholic culture and community on the internet. I quickly became a regular listener of Father Roderick, and I can remember I was walking to work through a park when I heard Father Roderick announce that he was going to do his first Daily Breakfast Podcast. Two and a half years later, Father Roderick and Greg and Jennifer Willits head the Star Quest Production Network, SQPN.com which currently hosts over 30 Catholic podcasts and is the epicenter for a blossoming Catholic community on the internet.

My family was delighted when we heard that Father Roderick was coming to Canada on a whirlwind tour in late January. After school on January 26, we piled into the van and drove 2+ hours to Toronto to meet up with Father Roderick and about 20 other SQPN listeners.
