In this show we give our impressions about the Catholic New Media Celebration in Boston earlier this month.
My take on CNMC: There is a welcome move toward professionalization of Catholic media.  We need high quality, engaging media– not boring media.  However, it is important not to discredit or diminish the value of the work done by passionate amateurs.  Remember that  GK Chesterton was a great champion of amateurs.  He said:  ”Anything worth doing is worth doing badly.

New Blogs and podcasts to come out of the CNMC:
Baby Report:
Chris Bray and wife Katie had a daughter on August 17.  Chris is a catholic singer and worship leader from Ontario.
At time of this recording, Carson and Rebecca Weber were at the hospital delivering their 2nd daughter.  Carson is director of New Media Evangelization and Catechesis for the Catholic Church in Sacramento, CA.  He hosts the Understanding the Scriptures Podcast .
Victor and Marilyn Carvallo from Catholicland.com are grandparents:   Kelli & Joe’s Carvallo BABY Girl was BORN August 5.
CNMC Rosary:   During the CNMC, I asked various people to record the prayers and reflections on the mysteries of the rosary.    Listen closely to hear the voices of familiar/ and not so familiar bloggers, podcasters and people producing Catholic media.  I was honored to have Cardinal Seán O’Malley from the Archdiocese of Boston begin the rosary with the Apostles Creed.  Thanks to all who participated to make this rosary a special celebration of the online Catholic community.  There were approximately 68 people who contributed their voices to the rosary.   The full credits and the first set of mysteries, The Luminous Mysteries, are available here.  I will be releasing the other sets of mysteries weekly for the next 3 weeks.

The Community that Prays together…

Play

We were thrilled to attend the Catholic New Media Celebration in Boston on August 6-8.  We met many of our on-line friends in the flesh for the first time, and made the acquaintance of many more online friends.  During the CNMC I asked various people to record the prayers and reflections on the mysteries of the rosary.  I’m pleased to offer here the first set of mysteries in the CNMC Online Catholic Community rosary. I will be releasing a credits mp3 with the names of all the participants in the upcoming weeks.

Listen for the voices of:

Cardinal Seán O’Malley

The Luminous Mysteries

1st Luminous Mystery:  The Baptism of Jesus in the Jordan:

Sister Maria Elizabeth FSP, Susan Bailey

2nd Luminous Mystery: The Wedding at Cana: Fr. Roderick Vonhögen

3rd Luminous Mystery: The Proclamation of the Kingdom: Pat Gohn

4th Luminous Mystery: The Transfiguration:  Gina Grech

5th Luminous Mystery: The Institution of the Eucharist:  Greg and Jennifer Willits

You can find a list of all the contributors and an audio montage of them introducing themselves on the CNMC Rosary credits post.

Update: Once I posted this, my family and a friend prayed the rosary together using this audio.  Only then did I notice that I had mislabeled an misplaced Susan Bailey’s reflection as the 4th Luminous Mystery instead of the 1st.  Now we have 2 contributions for the Baptism of the lord, by Susan Bailey and Sister Marie Elizabeth fsp.  My friend Gina stepped up and recorded a reflection for the 4th Luminous Mystery, the Transfiguration.  Enjoy.
